2020 Toilet Paper Earrings

I’ve been working on putting together a couple gift baskets for some high school seniors I know. Today I’ll be showing you how I made these fun 2020 toilet paper earrings with the Glowforge.

The first thing I did was design the earrings using Affinity Designer. Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures of my progress but this is the finished design.

I also designed the backer for the earrings to hang on.

The backer is a simple rectangle that is 2.423 inches wide by 3.552 inches high. The holes for the earrings to hang on are .084 inches. I exported both of these as .SVG files and uploaded them to the Glowforge app.

For the earrings themselves I used Glowforges Medium Walnut Hardwood proof grade material. It is the piece that came with the machine and I had been trying to figure out what to use it for. For the backer I used medium chipboard with settings of 190 speed 100 power to cut, and 500 speed and 100 for engrave (These settings work well for me but use at your own risk). The red color in each file is the cut and the blue is the engrave. I pushed the button and had these earrings in a matter of minutes. I just added a jump ring and hanging earring piece to each and they were ready to go.
